1) Read to page 174 2) Complete all previous sections. 3) In a paragraph, write an evaluation of the book so far. This response can be fairly open-ended.
Now that I have passed the half way point of Nothing to Envy I have gotten a decent feel for the book. I find myself interested by Barbera Demick's quasi- linear method for getting the story of North Korea across. She develops several personal stories of those who she interviewed which she jumps between while explaining the overarching North Korean plot. I liked how at the start of the book, Demick took a step back and set the scene in which one of her interviews took place. I hope that this format returns toward the end of the book as I thought it was good how such a set up put the very personal stories into perspective.
